I love teaching people how to make their own clothes. Over the past three years I have taught workshops across the UK and at my studio Threadworks in London. I’ve devised courses based on everything from Bras to Bomber Jackets, Dresses to Dungarees. My workshops for adults are always open to all, regardless of previous sewing experience.
This year I also started a collaboration with my sister Hannah Higginson, who is a Youth Engagement Producer. We created a series of workshops for young people aged 16-24. We wanted the focus to be on celebrating our bodies using designing, making, breath, movement and meditation. We wanted to question the what the existing fashion industry offers young people, ask them how they would like clothes to make them feel. Having done a pilot series of these workshops with Battersea Arts Centre, Tobacco Factory Theatres and Off The Record we are looking for funding and organisations to collaborate to build on this idea. As young people’s mental health and body confidence is increasingly manipulated by mainstream advertising and social media we think it is vital to provide tools to build body confidence and free expression.
I’m currently taking a small break from teaching my usual classes as I move studio and work on a few other projects but I will be back with a whole new season of workshops shortly. The best way to stay in touch about dates is via instagram or pop me your email in the box below.
