Zips, buttons and buttonholes are small details that make a big difference. In this brand new Made My Wardrobe workshop we’ll help you master them with confidence. Together, we’ll explore essential techniques for sewing zips and buttonholes neatly and securely, breaking each process down into clear, manageable steps.
This hands-on session focuses on accuracy, finishing, and problem-solving, with plenty of guidance along the way. Whether you’ve been avoiding fastenings or simply want to refine your skills, you’ll leave feeling empowered to incorporate a range of zips and buttonholes into your handmade wardrobe with ease and beautiful results.
For this workshop we have teamed up with Tauko magazine, so that as will as all the teaching you will get on the day, you will also take home any issue of Tauko magazine from our back catalogue. Tauko magazine always includes at least 10 sewing patterns with every copy so using these designs you will be able to put your new skills into action on garments on a range of garments.
What will be included:
How to insert a standard zip
How to insert an invisible zip
How to insert a trouser zip fly
How to sew a buttonhole using a machine
How to sew on buttons on securely by hand using traditional tailors techniques
A copy of Tauko magazine, Issue No.18
The samples you make during the workshop can be kept as examples so that you have reference points which using these techniques in the future
All the fabric and sewing equipment you will need on that day will also be provided.

Is this workshop open to beginners?
We have designed this workshop ideally for folks who have attended our Intro To Sewing for Beginners workshop and now want to level up their skills to sew and broader range of garments.
What about food and accommodation?
We’ll provide the tea, coffee and sweet treats
We can recommend lots of cafes and tasty spots nearby for lunch or you are welcome to bring a packed lunch and eat in.

What is your cancellation policy?
If you can no longer attend a workshop please let us know as far in advance as possible. We can usually re-sell your place and give you a 75% refund, but we cannot guarantee this if you cancel at the last minute.
