Introducing: Quilt Clubhouse

Go from a pile of fabric to a beautifully-made heirloom patchwork quilt with our online quilt course

If you are looking to fall in love with the art of quilt making this cosy season we have just the online course and community for you! We will guide you through the whole process of making a quilt. From choosing your colours, designing your quilt top, to layering up and binding the edges, we will break down the process from start to finish in an accessible and joyful way.

This course will start in October 2025 and will run for three months. The course will include monthly live webinar talks and demonstrations with Lydia Higginson - founder of Made My Wardrobe. There will be easy-to-follow video tutorials on a range of quilting techniques which you can sew along with at home, at your own pace. You can ask any questions you may have along the way via our private Facebook community group.

Here are five top tips to get you ready to make your first quilt

If it makes you want to dive in and start making your own unique quilt, we can’t wait to meet you in the QUILT CLUBHOUSE!

What will be covered:

  • A guide to collecting your fabrics, forming your colour scheme and setting up your sewing space ready to make

  • An inspiration session exploring some of our favourite quilt makers and archives to get your ideas flowing

  • A full range of patchwork techniques including Half Square Triangles, Log Cabin, Checkerboard and Nine Patch Squares. Yes, these all sound like line dancing moves - but I promise you they are really fun quilting techniques!

  • A full demo on how to create your final patchwork design. If you are making your quilt for someone else, we will help you think about how the colours, symbols and messaging can best represent them.

  • An in-depth guide to layering up your quilt to avoid any bubbles or tucks

  • All the guidelines you need to quilt your layers together by hand or machine

  • A demystifying demo on how to bind quilts and finish edges

  • Plus: a free bonus session on embroidering your signature, the date or a secret message to add a final personal touch to your quilt!

Who Is This Course For?

  • Anyone who wants to learn how to make a quilt from start to finish

  • You will need access to a sewing machine and a basic sewing kit of threads, needles, pins, fabric pen, set square ruler and fabric scissors in order to join this course

  • Ideally, you will already know how to thread up a sewing machine and sew in a straight line. But other than that you don’t need a huge amount of sewing experience to join.

  • You may choose to follow along solo or design and make this quilt with someone you love. In past classes we have had mothers and daughters, aunties and nephews, and old school friends sewing together to create something meaningful to them.

  • If you are interested in connecting with quilt makers from all over the world this is the perfect course for you

About Your TeacheR

Hi! I’m Lydia - your teacher for this course. My mum taught me to sew from the age of seven and I haven’t stopped since. I think this little film that my brother made, documenting the process of making a quilt with my mum in memory of my grandma, sums up my creative practice better than I could put into words.

New Quilting Fabric collection available to pre-order

To coincide with the launch of our Quilt Clubhouse we have also sourced a beautiful selection of quilting cottons from Fableism - a family owned fabric suppliers we have loved using in the studio for many years…
