Do you want to level up your sewing skills and learn how to make a beautifully sewn shirt? Then this is the workshop for you my friend! You will be given three different shirt patterns to choose from: The Modern Sewing Co. utilitarian Over Shirt, their sleek Classic Shirt or the Unisex Shirt. Choose the style that suits you best and then we can get cracking teaching you all the skills you need.

What will be included:

  • A shirt sewing pattern of your choice

  • Fabric for the garment you want to make

  • A full guide to taking your measurements & finding your size

  • A range of shirt-making sewing techniques from collars and cuffs to plackets to button holes

  • One-on-one fitting advice

When: Saturday 18th - Sunday 19th April 2024, 10am-4pm

Where: Made My Wardrobe Studio, 27 Portland Square, Bristol, BS2 8SA

Who: This course will be taught by Jamilla Ives, Made My Wardrobe’s in-house pattern cutter. Jamilla’s aunty got her her hooked on sewing when she was twelve years old. Since then, she has studied Fashion Atelier at University, been a Technician on the fashion course at the University of Gloucestershire, and she now runs the fashion programme for The Prince’s Foundation. She loves demystifying pattern cutting for home sewers to give them the creative freedom to sew any design they can imagine.

Is this workshop open to all genders and non-binary people?

  • Yes, everyone welcome!

How much sewing experience do I need?

  • We recommend you have used a sewing machine and made some garments before joining this course to get the most out if it. If you are new to the game, why not try our Intro To Sewing workshop before doing this one.

What about food & accommodation?

  • We will provide tea, coffee and sweet treats

  • If you are visiting Bristol from out of town, we have a handy guide full of top tips here, including lots of cafés and tasty spots nearby for lunch. Alternatively you are welcome to bring a packed lunch and eat in.

  • We have decided to ask participants to make their own accommodation arrangements on this occasion. There is a beautiful boutique hotel next door to the studio called Artist Residence if you feel like treating yourself.

What is your cancellation policy?

  • If you can no longer attend a workshop, please let us know as far in advance as possible. We can usually re-sell your place and give you a 75% refund, but we cannot guarantee this if you cancel at the last minute.
