Honour your family history and personal narratives through the timeless art of quilting. In this hands-on sewing workshop, you’ll transform fabric into meaningful keepsakes, quilts that tell stories, preserve memories, and connect generations.
Bring old garments, treasured fabrics, or even printed photos on cloth, and learn how to weave them into a quilt rich with memory and love. Whether you’re commemorating a significant life event or preserving ancestral wisdom, every stitch becomes a tangible link to those who came before.
It could be that you want to make a quilt in memory of a grandmother who has passed away or a new baby that is on the way. You may even want to invite a family member to join you on this course so that you can sew together.
Just as quilts have long provided warmth and storytelling across cultures, this workshop invites you to keep those traditions alive, one stitch, one story at a time. No matter your skill level, come create something lasting, personal, and deeply meaningful.
What will be included:
Two days of teaching and advice from the MMW Team
Designing intuitively, responding to fabrics, shapes and your own family history
Demos of patchwork, appliqué, embroidery sewing techniques
An introduction to machine quilting, backing and edging techniques
A full Introduction to using our top range PFAFF sewing machines
Delving into our epic patchwork fabric stash you can pick out a whole array of fabrics to make your patchworks, however you are also encouraged to bring in any fabrics that might have sentimental meaning to you. Non-stretch, medium weight fabrics tend to work best for quilting but we are happy to be flexible with what you have.
If you don’t finish your quilt in one weekend that’s no problem, we all know these processes take time and devotion. You can always join our Open Studio or Quilt Club sessions to finish them off.
When: Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th March 2026, 10am till 4pm
Where: Made My Wardrobe Studio, 27 Portland Square, Bristol, BS2 8SA
