A Blessing Quilt for Kate's Baby
I know Kate through my time at Bristol Textile Quarter. She is part of a crew of textile-loving women who I met at the beginning of my career and who ended up being really formative in their support and sense of community. When Kate was pregnant we wanted to shower her in some feminine wisdom and love, so we organised a quilting session at the studio. I knew this crew would have great taste, so I asked them all to bring fabrics in shades of blue and cream that held some sentimental meaning to them. We then patchworked them together into a baby quilt for the little dude to roll around on.
The day felt nurturing in a way that more traditional baby blessings sometimes don’t. We bought Kate flowers picked from our gardens, made a pot luck lunch and shared motherhood advice as we stitched. I was having too much fun to get a photo of the whole finished quilt but you can get a feel for it from the sum of its parts.
