A new pattern has rolled into town...meet the Hilda Bag!

Hello to all you lovely movers and makers,

We have an exciting new pattern we can’t wait to share with you. She’s called the Hilda Bag and she’s a backpack and bike pannier in one! How genius is that.

The first concept for this bag came to me during lockdown one. I had some leather which I wanted to up-cycle and I knew I wanted to make a bag which would be good for cycling. Of all the things I have made it is probably the thing that I have used the most (pretty much everyday since I made it). The design is so useful for carrying my laptop & lunch to work, doing a weekly food shop, going on adventures at the weekend and generally just taking the pressure off my shoulders to carry everything all the time! The waist and chest straps really help distribute the weight evenly when its being worn as a backpack and the pannier clips are a super secure way of attaching it to the back of your bike so that you can fly up those hills!

Since making that first bag I’ve refined the design, tested it out with other cyclists and sourced best possible fabrics to make it with.

We are delighted to be using British Millerain fabric. Millerain have been making waxed cotton in the UK since the 1880’s. They are the pioneers of naturally waterproofed fabrics which have been used in outdoor apparel and accessories by staple British brands such as Barbour and Burberry.

This fabric is perfect for our Hilda Bag because it provides a tough water resistant layer, whilst still being soft and supple enough to sew on a normal domestic machine.

If you’re not a cyclist you also have the choice of making at a backpack without the pannier clips. Our Hilda Bag kits will be available in three different colour ways; Noir, Sage and Merlot. The kits will include waxed cotton fabric, lining cotton fabric, 2 x metal zips, 2 x metal clasps & the bike pannier clips (optional). You can also get super creative adding your own up-cycled leather to the bag design if you want to! We have loved cutting up old knackered leather bags which were falling apart and re-using this valuable resource.

The Hilda Bag pattern and kits will be available to pre-order from 29/9/21. Make sure you’re signed up to our mailing list to be the first to know!

Big Love,

Lydia and the MMW team x
